Faze wins first CS:GO major against Na'Vi at PGL Major Antwerp in Belgium

Faze Clan wins its first major in Belgium, at the PGL Major Antwerp. The team of Karrigan, Broky, Twistzz, Ropz and Rain gave the FaZe Clan team its first CS:GO world championship title after a 2-0 victory over Natus Vincere (Na'Vi). The team defeated the last world champions, Perfecto, B1t, Electronic, Boombl4 and S1mple, the current best player on Counter Strike.

It's not the only achievement: this is also the first international team to win a Major on Counter Strike.

A very tight first card

The final took place on May 22, 2022, pitting FaZe against Na'Vi, respectively first and second in the world rankings on CSGO (HLTV). The maps were Inferno, Nuke and Ancient in a BO3 to decide the overall winner.

FaZe led the first part of the match, 10-5. But the Russian-Ukrainian team didn't give up and eventually tied the score 15-15. It was thanks to Karrigan, who has been with the team since February 2021, that the overtime tipped in FaZe's favor. The Danish player scored three kills in a two-on-four situation on the A-bomb site in round 29, giving FaZe the confidence to win 19-16.

A crushing victory in the second game

Then came a second card, Nuke, chosen by Team Na'VI. FaZe once again dominated the first game, with a score of 10 to 5. Despite some fine play from Russian player Perfecto, the Russian-Ukrainian team lost to FaZe by 16-10, leaving FaZe, an international team, to win its first major, Counter Strike's most important tournament.

Their opponents, Na'Vi, were the most recent winners of the Major, at the PGL Major Stockholm in 2021, which pitted them against G2.

Norwegian player Rain topped the leaderboard with 52 kills to 40 kills and 107.9 damage per round. He also wins the MVP Award for the tournament's best player. A pillar of the team since 2016, Håvard Nygaard (real name) says he is honored.

"It's so incredible, I don't even know how to explain it. I'm still a bit in shock, I don't think I've realized yet that we've actually won the Major. Even two, three months before this event, I was telling my friends back home to come to the Major, we're going to win this for sure, I kept telling them."

In fact, he'll be sharing a photo on instagram with his girlfriend, who took to the stage for the occasion.

Current ranking on CSGO

The Norwegian is confident for the future, indicating that this was only the beginning. Na'Vi remains well placed to dethrone the current world champions.

For the moment, we find Faze in first place, then Na'Vi and Ence to complete this podium. French team Vitality are only ranked 8ᵉ and G2, former finalists in the major are currently 5th.
